Lectio Divina

Read this passage from Colossians three times. The first time, be slow and let it soak in. Pause for a minute to listen after reading it.

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Read it again. Pay attention to what words God might be pointing out to you or anything else He might be emphasizing.

After the second reading, what stuck out? Focus on that thought. What does it mean? Reflect.

Read it a third and final time. When you get to the phrase that stuck out to you, repeat it a few times. Reflect on it. Repeat it and let the words interact with your thoughts, your memories, and other scriptures in your mind. Also, pray. What is God trying to tell you? Respond.

Remain. Rest and wait before God’s presence. Is something emerging from this time with God that you sense you need to try out?
