We really hate to ask, but consider donating to the church. 

If you come to our annual meeting, you can see our budget. And seriously, we are so bad at asking for money, so it would be great if you supported us so we don't make as many awkward announcements about it.

If you would rather mail us a physical check, we would be amenable to that as well. (We aren't really pretentious enough to use "amenable" in a sentence but we were just proud we used it correctly.)
