Love and Resurrection

January 19, 2018

Psalm 36:5-10 • Isaiah 62:1-5I Corinthians 12:1-11 John 2:1-11

This coming Saturday we will begin a new series based upon our readings from I Corinthians. From this Saturday until Lent we will explore what it means to live as people who love as we hope in the resurrection. The last chapters of I Corinthians show how Paul the Apostle guided the church through many difficulties. Some of these included how the church participated in the Lord’s Supper, how they conducted themselves in light of their spiritual gifting, and how they disciplined members of their community that were straying into areas that were harmful and destructive. Paul rooted all of his guidance in the fact that the church is to be a community of prayerful love empowered by the reality of Christ’s resurrection. It is my hope that we will learn, both as a community and as individuals, how we might be people who love reflexively as we hope in the resurrection.

Here is the collect for the 2nd week after the Epiphany:

Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light
of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word
and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's
glory, that he may be known, worshiped, and obeyed to the
ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with
you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and
for ever. Amen.
