Readings for the week of August 4
" . . . let the bones that you have crushed rejoice." - Psalm 51:8
This week's Old Testament readings include David's confrontation by Nathan, "you're the man!", and David's psalmic response to God. In the Psalm, David begs for God's mercy because he knows he has sinned. He owns his sin. More than any of his other contributions, David's heart that repents and responds to God is worthy of imitation.
May we all learn to "own" our own sin and receive the proper forgiveness of God.
Let your continual mercy, O Lord, cleanse and defend your Church; and, because it cannot continue in safety without your help, protect and govern it always by your goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. - Proper 13 for Aug 3
