The 1st Saturday of the Christmas Season
Yes, it is still Christmas! December 25 is the first day of the Christmas season which will continue until Epiphany on January 6. The 6th is known as Theophany in the Christian East and it was the original date for commemorating the birth of Jesus. It is now a day when we commemorate the visit of the Magi. Their visitation makes it clear that Christ has been made manifest not only to Israel but to the whole world.
The mystery of Christ becoming human is so profound that we need more than one day to contemplate it. Christmas may last only two weeks but the entire year provides the opportunity to marvel at the miracle of God with us.
Let us celebrate the Incarnation, the beginning of God’s New Creation.
