” . . . or you are all children of light and children of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness.” – I Thessalonians 5:5
Judgment seems to be a harsh word. But I hope we can find in it some comfort. The fact that there is a day of judgment means that God will, once and for all, deal with all evil and death. In the resurrection, everything that is broken gets set straight and Christ takes his rightful place. Judgment can be frightening, but since Christ is the judge we can have hope. Because we know that he will judge in such a way that is consistent with his character.
Blessed Lord, who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for
our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn,
and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever
hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have
given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with
you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
