. . . those who lose their life for my sake will find it. ~ Matthew 16:25

Ps 105:1-26Exodus 3:1-15Romans 12:9-21Matthew 16:21-29

This week’s Gospel reading is a quick left turn from Peter’s confession of Christ in last week’s passage. Peter goes from the one on whom the church is founded to the Jesus’ accuser and Jesus will not let him get away with it.

Being right on one point does not guarantee that we will be right in another. Doing the right thing, doing the Kingdom thing, requires regular, repentant listening. Listening for the heartbeat of Jesus is critical when we’ve gone off course and perhaps more important when we believe ourselves to be on the right course.

Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
